Further Protests Expected in Gaza following Week of Deadly Protests

05/18/2018 (Palestinian Territories/ West Bank and Gaza Strip) - A new wave of protests is expected in the Gaza Strip today, Friday, 18 May after the March of Return organising committee urged residents to take to the streets following Friday prayers, the first of the holy month of Ramadan. Clashes earlier in the week led to the deaths of roughly 60 Palestinians as Israeli Defence Force (IDF) soldiers resorted to the use of live fire to disperse crowds gathering at the borders.
Members in Israel and the Palestinian Territories are advised to remain extremely vigilant amid the heightened tensions and ongoing unrest, immediately reporting any suspicious activity to authorities. If a planned or spontaneous protest or gathering occurs in a member's area of operations, members should seek to vacate the area immediately. Members should exercise a heightened level of situational awareness near US interests and Israeli security installations and personnel.
