05/17/2018 (United States) - On Wednesday 16, May, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory released a statement claiming that volcanic emissions from the Kilauea volcano on Big Island have decreased, prompting the cancellation of an ash fall advisory. Despite occasional ash clouds still being seen over the summit, testing in local communities showed negligible particle levels. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has also confirmed that there is no tsunami alert at this time despite recent low-level tremors. Despite this there is still a possibility that earthquakes may open up new tunnels causing lava to flow again, prompting fresh warnings.

Members in Hawaii are advised to maintain an increased level of vigilance due to potential eruptions and further earthquakes and should monitor local media sources in order to remain apprised of any government advisories. Any directives issued by local authorities should be adhered to, including evacuation orders. Travellers should avoid non-essential travel in the vicinity of affected areas in the medium term.
