05/17/2018 (Colombia) - According to local media reports on Thursday, 17 may, at least four masked men have attacked the campaign headquarters of Colombian presidential candidate Gustavo Petro in Valledupar. The men are thought to have damaged the building and assaulted a number of the venue's security guards. The attack follows a claim by Petro's campaign manager that he has received a series of death threats over the last week. This politically motivated attack comes ten days before the first round of Presidential elections, which will be held on Sunday, 27 May.

Travellers are advised to exercise a heightened level of vigilance in public places and near polling stations which are often flashpoints for violence during the electoral period. Over-land travel disruptions are also likely and transport plans should be reviewed in light of this. Personnel should also monitor local reports by the media and adhere to any official instructions issued by the authorities.
