05/17/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to local officials in Farah city on Thursday, 17 May, clashes have resumed between Taliban insurgents and government forces in the city, following the repulsion by security forces of a large-scale Taliban attack on the morning of Tuesday, 15 May. Officials have said that three suicide bombers detonated explosives close to police headquarters and government buildings on the night of Wednesday, 16 May. As well as the bombings, there were clashes between Taliban insurgents and government forces in various parts of the city through the night and into the morning of Thursday, 17 May.

Due to the high levels of militant activity and ongoing security forces counter operations, Farah province remains an extreme risk environment and we advise against all travel to the region. If operationally-critical deployments are undertaken, they should only be done so with stringent security procedures and journey management protocols in place. Any movements outside of secure compounds should be conducted with a reputable security provider and in coordination with local authorities and security forces.
