05/17/2018 (Philippines) - Local media sources on Thursday, 17 May report that an American citizen was shot dead in Silay, Negros Occidental on Tuesday. The shooting occurred following an altercation between the man and a local resident, who was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident. The resident has been arrested along with his nephew.
Members are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness, particularly in higher crime areas such as transport hubs, public squares and parks, tourist sites, and nightlife areas. Those in-country should seek to maintain a low-profile and avoid displays of relative wealth, particularly electronic devices. Any crimes or suspicious activity should be immediately reported to police.
