05/17/2018 (Spain) - According to local news sources on Thursday, 17 May, hundreds of people took to the streets of Madrid and Barcelona to demand that the government brings in a promised plan to combat domestic violence. The demonstrations took place on Wednesday, 16 May, protesters in Madrid blocked streets as they lay on the ground and covered themselves in plastic sheets. Around 500 people marched in Barcelona demanding that the government increase their efforts to end domestic violence. There have been widespread demonstrations protesting violence against women since the recent case of a woman being raped by a group of men at Pamplona's bull-running festival. Domestic violence is a high profile issue in the country with intense media interest in such incidents.

Members are advised to remain clear of any political gathering in order to mitigate against unruly crowd behaviour. Those in the vicinity of marches should expect localised overland travel disruption in the vicinity of the aforementioned areas due to large political gatherings and increased security presence. Keep apprised of any further update by monitoring local media sources.
