Security Operation Underway to Clear Notre-Dame-des-Landes Protest Camp

05/17/2018 (France) - An operation is underway to clear demonstrators from a protest camp in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, near Nantes. The operation reportedly began at 0600hrs (0400 UTC) on Thursday, 17 May and targeted around a dozen makeshift shelters. Unconfirmed reports suggest tear gas has been used and Molotov cocktails have been thrown by protesters. The operation is ongoing.
Members are advised to avoid the vicinity of the camp due to the ongoing security operations and associated risk of incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed crowd dispersal operations. Those in the vicinity should closely follow local media outlets for updates on the progression of the operation.
