Shooting at UNAM Main Campus in Mexico City Highlights Drug Traffickers' Presence within University Facilities

02/24/2018 (Mexico) - On Friday, 23 February, at least two people were shot dead near the Faculty of Accountancy and Management of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. Reports indicate that the shooting followed an argument between drug dealers operating within the UNAM main campus. Although violent incidents such as this one are not uncommon in the area, the shooting brings to the limelight the presence of drug dealing criminal groups operating within university domains. Police investigations remain underway.

Those within the aforementioned area are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness and report any type of suspicious activity or item to the local authorities.
