Fatality and Multiple Injured after Suicide Bomb Targets Green Zone Checkpoint in Kabul

02/24/2018 (Afghanistan) - According to emerging social media sources on Saturday, 24 February, one person has been killed and six others injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated in the Shash Darak area of in Kabul city, also known as the Green Zone. Early reports indicate that a suicide bomber targeted a police checkpoint at one of the main entry gates to the Green Zone. Further information is expected as investigations are ongoing.

Those in Kabul are advised to avoid the vicinity of the attack in the immediate term due to the ongoing emergency response operations and risk of secondary attacks. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations.
