02/24/2018 (Afghanistan) - Taliban militants attacked an Afghan military base in the western province of Farah on Friday, 23 February, killing 18 government soldiers. The attack took place in the Shakh-i-Bala Kansk area of Bala Buluk district. Unconfirmed reports indicate that 12 Taliban insurgents were also killed during the confrontation. The incident comes amid a spate of Taliban attacks on government targets in Kabul, Kunduz, and Helmand Province over the last 24 hours. The attacks are likely to be in response to nationwide security operations targeting Taliban militants in recent days.
Those in Farah are advised to avoid the Bala Buluk district in the immediate term due to the ongoing security operations and risk of secondary attacks. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations. Clients are reminded that Afghanistan remains an extreme-risk operational environment, and deployments should only be undertaken with the strictest possible security procedures and journey management protocols in place. Clients should use a reputable security provider that offers close protection and emergency response services.
