02/24/2018 (Afghanistan) - At least five people have been killed and 11 others have been injured following two separate attacks in Helmand Province on Saturday, 24 February. A Taliban fighter reportedly detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) near a military base in Nad Ali district early on Saturday morning. Another Taliban militant later detonated a VBIED in the vicinity of a provincial intelligence agency in Lashkar Gah. The incidents occurred amid a spate of Taliban attacks on government targets in Kabul, Kunduz, and Farah Province over the last 24 hours. The attacks are likely to be in response to nationwide security operations targeting Taliban militants in recent days.

Those in Helmand are advised to avoid the affected areas in the immediate term due to the ongoing security operations and risk of secondary attacks. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations. Clients are reminded that Afghanistan remains an extreme-risk operational environment, and deployments should only be undertaken with the strictest possible security procedures and journey management protocols in place. Clients should use a reputable security provider that offers close protection and emergency response services.
