02/24/2018 (Philippines) - More than a thousand people have reportedly gathered at the People Power Monument on White Plains Avenue in Quezon City on Saturday, 24 February, to protest against the Duterte administration's proposed charter change. The Philippine National Police (PNP) have deployed more than 300 additional officers to oversee the event, which is expected to remain peaceful. Furthermore, thousands of people are expected to gather at the People Power Monument for further celebratory events on Sunday, 25 February, to mark the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which led to the ousting of former President Ferdinand Marcos. The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that increased security measures and road closures will be imposed during the events. Parts of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the main highway through Metro Manila, will be closed north of Ortigas Avenue, and a number of smaller surrounding roads will be closed to traffic throughout the day.

Though the events are expected to remain peaceful and celebratory, clients in Quezon City and the Metro Manila area should be wary of the increased presence of security personnel; heed any directives issued by authorities, and report any suspicious items or activity immediately. Travellers should remain vigilant in the vicinity of large crowds due to the potential for opportunistic crime and exposure to crowd disturbances. Monitor local media reports for updates on road closures and travel disruption in your area of operation.
