02/23/2018 (Mozambique) - Following months of heavy rain and floods across the country since October 2017, at least 50 people have reportedly been killed during the summer rains season in the country according to international media outlets. Furthermore, water- and mosquito-borne diseases are expected to spread as floodwaters provide places for mosquitos to reproduce and breed, and water supplies are affected by contamination.

Travellers in affected areas are advised to monitor local media sources for weather-related updates and to remain apprised of disruption and warnings in their particular area of operations. Those in-country should familiarise themselves with local emergency protocols, including evacuation orders. Furthermore, travellers are advised to drain or cover standing pools of water found in buckets, flower pots, gutters, tires, etc. Keep apprised of the latest advisories issued by health authorities and monitor local sources for further updates.
