02/23/2018 (Italy) - Members of the National Association of Italian Partisans have called for an anti-fascist rally in Rome on Saturday, 24 February. More than 20,000 participants are expected to gather at Piazza della Repubblica at 1330hrs (1230 UTC) before proceeding towards Piazza del Popolo. Rome's police commissioner has stated that the force is preparing to implement increased security measures and deploy additional personnel throughout the city in anticipation of violent unrest. The event comes amid ongoing anti-racism demonstrations in Rome, Turin, Bologna, and Macerata, which initially began in response to the racially-motivated shooting of six migrants in Macerata. Many of the protests have escalated into violence, resulting in heavy-handed crowd dispersal techniques by police.

Clients in Rome are advised to remain well clear of the aforementioned areas during the planned protest. Travellers in major cities across Italy should remain vigilant amid the heightened tensions and ongoing unrest, avoiding the vicinity of large crowds and political gatherings, and heeding any directives issued by authorities. Monitor local media reports for further updates and information regarding associated travel disruption.
