02/22/2018 (Honduras) - On 21 February, the opposition leader and former President, Manuel Zelaya, has called for demonstrations in Tegucigalpa on 23 February and in Ilama, Santa Barbara department, on 25 February. Demonstrations in Tegucigalpa will affect the vicinity of the Organization of American States (OAS) office in the city centre at 1600hrs (2200 UTC), while those to be held in Ilama on Sunday will start at 1100hrs (1700 UTC) in the vicinity of the El Pozo prison. Demonstrators will protest the latest general election results and the arrest of 22 people considered political prisoners by the opposition.

Clients in Tegucigalpa and Ilama are advised to avoid the vicinity of the aforementioned locations and should expect localised travel disruption as crowds start gathering. Travellers are advised to factor likely travel delays into their business continuity plans and follow all directives issued by the authorities. All demonstrations and political gatherings should be avoided due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence. Keep apprised of further developments by closely monitoring local sources.
