02/22/2018 (Nigeria) - According to international sources on Tuesday, 20 February, an Israeli citizen has been safely released after being kidnapped for ransom in Abuja last week. The business traveller's vehicle was ambushed by unknown gunmen on the outskirts of the city on Friday, 16 February. The driver of the vehicle, a Nigerian citizen, was killed during the confrontation. The victim was released following negotiations between the abductors, the company he worked for, and the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria. The incident highlights the persistent threat of kidnap for ransom to foreign nationals in Nigeria.
