Fatalities Reported following Landslide in Brebes Regency, Java; Multiple Remain Missing

02/22/2018 (Indonesia) - According to local media sources on Thursday, 22 February, at least five people have been killed after a landslide hit Pasir Panjang village in Brebes Regency, Java. At least 15 people remain missing after the incident. The landslide also blocked the main road between the Salem and Banjargarjo subdistricts of the Regency. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) had previously warned of possible landslides in West Java, Central Java and East Java during the rainy season, having forecast heavy downpour in Java until March.

Travellers are advised to remain abreast of weather-related developments and review contingency measures to minimise the impact on business continuity. Personnel in flood-affected areas are further advised to remain in a secure location and heed associated instructions issued by authorities. Motorists are advised to exercise heightened caution when conducting essential movements due to likely hazardous driving conditions.
