Self-driving is not recommended for travellers in Thailand unless one is familiar with the driving environment. Road conditions in the country may be considered substandard compared to those in more developed countries, while traffic and safety signs, as well as street lights, are inadequate outside urban centres. Those in the affected area are advised to exercise an increased level of caution if undertaking overland travel in the medium term and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Travellers unfamiliar with local driving conditions should consider the use of private hire vehicles and professional drivers from reputable travel providers.
