Police Officers injured following Multiple IED blasts in Rizal Province; NPA Militant Group Suspected

02/21/2018 (Philippines) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 21 February, at least two police officers have sustained shrapnel injuries following two improvised explosive devices (IED) blasts in Baras, Rizal province. The officers were reportedly patrolling the Barangay Pinugay area when the incident occurred. Preliminary investigations suggest the devices were planted by members of the New People's Army (NPA) militant group.

Personnel should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations and heed any directives issued by security forces and local authorities. Travellers in areas of the country where the NPA and other militant groups are known to operate are advised to subject all operations to a thorough location-specific threat assessment and should ensure that risk mitigation measures commensurate to the local security environment are in place.
