Turkish Soldiers Killed in PKK Attack in Semdinli District, Hakkari Province

02/21/2018 (Turkey) - According to international media reports on Wednesday, 21 February, two Turkish soldiers have been killed and another injured following an attack by suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Semdinli district of the rural south-eastern province of Hakkari. Reports indicate that an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated by the militants as Turkish forces were carrying out counter-terrorism operations in the district.

Southern Turkey remains a focal point of conflict between government forces and PKK-led insurgents. As such, travel in these areas should be subject to a localised risk assessment and undertaken with comprehensive security measures in place. Those with journey plans in the region are advised to liaise with authorities to identify no-go areas and ascertain safest travel routes.
