02/21/2018 (Iceland) - According to regional media outlets on Wednesday, 21 February, multiple roads to and from Reykjavik have been closed due to heavy snow. An orange alert has been issued by the Icelandic Meteorological Office for western areas of the country, warning of sustained winds of 20-28m/s (44-63 mph), with gusts of up to 40 m/s (89 mph). The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration have reopened Reykjanesbraut, the road leading to Keflavik International Airport (KEF), however, travel via this road is disrupted due to the inclement weather.

Those in Iceland are advised to exercise caution during overland travel and anticipate significant weather-related disruption in the immediate to medium term. This should be factored into itineraries, allowing additional time and planning alternative routes where possible. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
