02/20/2018 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - According to international media reports on Monday, 19 February, two aid workers have been killed and one kidnapped in an attack by unidentified armed men in the Rutshuru territory of North Kivu. The victims of the attack were reportedly working for the organisation Hydralique Sans Frontiers, which provides technical support to projects in the area. North Kivu is an area of intense militant activity and plays host to a number of different militant groups.

Instability persists across the eastern regions of the DRC, particularly the Kivu provinces, and numerous armed groups are known to operate in the region. Essential travel in the area should be subjected to the strictest possible security risk management procedures, including contracting armed private security and using vehicles equipped with radios. Personnel operating in the DRC are advised to regularly review their crisis management plans and security measures to ensure they remain commensurate with the local threat environment. Overland road and foot movements should be restricted to daylight hours and conducted under strict security risk management protocols.
