One Dead and Multiple Injured in Clashes Between PDP Supporters in Mbaitoli, Imo State

02/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local media reports from Monday, 19 February, multiple people have been injured and one shot dead at a meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Imo State. Reports suggest that clashes broke out between supporters of rival PDP candidates for the governorship of Imo State. The clashes were reportedly broken up by the intervention of security forces. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
Clients in Nigeria are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large political gathering in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Even gatherings expected to be peaceful can turn violent with little warning.
