02/20/2018 (Nigeria) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 20 February, a group of suspected Fulani herdsmen have attacked residents in a village in the Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State. Two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are thought to have been killed in the attack following an exchange of gunfire between the two parties. The incident follows the discovery of the remains of a local police chief who is thought to have been kidnapped and killed by herdsmen last week.

Due to the risks posed by violent criminal activity and intercommunal violence within Nigeria, clients should conduct any movement in the country in coordination with a reputable security provider and the local authorities. Contingency measures should be continually reviewed and updated accordingly so as to remain commensurate to the local threat environment. Travellers should avoid overt displays of wealth and endeavour to maintain a low profile.
