02/20/2018 (Cameroon) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 20 February, a curfew has been reintroduced in the Northwest Region of Cameroon following recent attacks against the security forces in the area. Sources indicate that the curfew will stand from 2000hrs (2100 UTC) to 0600hrs (0500 UTC) for one further week until 26 February. It has been indicated that a ban on firearms is in place as an attempt to curb armed attacks on security personnel. An insurgent group known as the Ambazonian Defence Forces (ADF) is reportedly behind recent attacks against security forces in anglophone areas.

Travellers are advised to avoid the vicinity of any political gatherings or demonstrations due to the potential for violence. Travellers should also be aware of the increased threat from low-level militant activity in the Northwest region and are advised to exercise a heightened level of vigilance, immediately reporting any suspicious items or activity to security forces. Although recent attacks have specifically targeted security forces and government infrastructure, particularly around Bamenda, travellers should be aware that the nature of the attacks, including the use of small improvised explosive devices (IEDs), may put them at increased risk.
