Suspected Islamic State Member Arrested in Torre Pacheco, Murcia

02/20/2018 (Spain) - According to local media reports on Monday, 20 February, Spanish police have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State (IS) in Torre Pacheco. The suspect, who was born in Morocco, is thought to be deeply involved in a process of radicalisation and reportedly ready to attack at any time soon. He is also accused of disseminating extremist propaganda online. Since 26 June 2015, the country remains under level 4 terror threat level on a scale of 5.

Travellers should monitor local media sources for any updates on the general security situation and any security operations in their particular area. Due to the elevated threat from terrorism in Spain, those in the country are advised to maintain a heightened level of vigilance and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces.
