Man Accused of Stealing Killed by Vigilante Mob in Ndirande Township, Blantyre

02/20/2018 (Malawi) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 20 February, a man has been assaulted and killed by a group of local residents in the Ndirande Township, near Blantyre, after he was accused of stealing private property. The man was killed in an area of the township known as Zambia where he was found lying on the side of the road by emergency responders. Local police authorities routinely condemn mob justice, which is a common reaction to perceived crime in the area.

Clients in Ndirande should report any suspicious activity to the local authorities. Personnel should avoid any large crowds and political gatherings in order to minimise the risk from incidental violence.
