02/20/2018 (Iran) - According to local media reports on Tuesday, 20 February, five members of the security forces have been killed in Tehran in clashes with protesters. Two of these are thought to have been members of Basij volunteer militia, which supports the revolutionary guard. During the disruption at least 300 people were arrested after they gathered in front of a police station in the north of the city. Most of the protesters are thought to be members of Gonabadi Dervishes; a religious minority in Iran.

Clients in Tehran are advised to anticipate an increased security presence and subsequent transport disruptions. Travellers should always avoid the vicinity of all gathering crowds and political protests due to the risk of exposure to incidental violence and heavy-handed police crowd dispersal methods. Monitor local media sources for related updates.
