02/19/2018 (Bolivia) - According to international media sources on Monday, 19 February, a countrywide general strike has been called for Wednesday, 21 February. Unions, civic groups and other organisations will reportedly be protesting incumbent President Evo Morales' attempts to run for a further presidential term. Demonstrators are likely to set up roadblocks in major urban centres including La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz.
Though the industrial action is expected to remain peaceful, clients in La Paz and major urban centres are advised to avoid the vicinity of all political gatherings in order to limit exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, heavy-handed police response, and opportunistic crime. Travellers conducting overland monitor local media sources for further updates on travel disruption.
