UNHCR Warns of Dramatic Increase in Homicides in the Bajo Cauca Sub-Region, Antioquia Department

02/19/2018 (Colombia) - According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Sunday, 18 February, homicides have increased 255% from 1 January to 14 February in respect of the last year in the sub-region of Bajo Cauca, Antioquia. The UN refugee agency's report also highlights that at least 822 people have been forced to leave their homes since 19 January, just in the area of the municipality of Caceres.


Those conducting travel outside of major cities in Colombia are advised to subject all journeys to a comprehensive localised threat assessment and liaise with local authorities to identify areas with active militant and security operations.
