Students Killed in Major Road Traffic Collision on Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway; Road Closed

02/19/2018 (India) - According to local media reports on Monday, 19 February, five students have been killed and a further 29 injured in a road accident on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway near Nagaon village in Maharashtra. The students are thought to have been travelling to Sangli in a truck on their way to a local festival when the vehicle came off the road after hitting one car and two motorcycles. The road remains closed whilst investigations are ongoing.
Clients are reminded that local driving habits can be hazardous and those in India are advised against self-driving in the country if unfamiliar with local roads and driving conditions. Travellers should exercise a heightened level of caution when conducting overland travel, ensuring that any transport providers meet the highest possible safety standards.
