02/19/2018 (Indonesia) - According to local media reports on Monday, 19 February, the Mount Sinabung volcano, on the island of Sumatra, has erupted, releasing a large ash cloud into the surrounding area. Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency has said there were no fatalities or injuries; however the regional volcanic ash advisory centre in Darwin, Australia, has issued a 'red notice' to airlines, warning aircraft to avoid the area. Previous eruptions in 2014 and 2016 have killed 23 people.

Those in the area are advised to familiarise themselves with local emergency protocols and heed any directives issued by authorities, including evacuation orders. Clients transiting through the country are advised to monitor developments as seismic activity continues.
