Local Residents Killed and Injured in Refuse Site Landslide in Maputo

02/19/2018 (Mozambique) - According to local media reports on Monday, 19 February, a landslide at a refuse collection site in Hulene, Maputo, has killed 12 people and injured five others. Search and rescue operations are understood to be ongoing as firefighters attempt to locate missing persons. The site at Hulene is the regions only landfill and is over-used and under-regulated and therefore should be avoided by travellers.

Clients in Maputo are advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident due to the ongoing emergency operations in the area and should anticipate travel disruptions in the immediate term. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
