02/18/2018 (El Salvador) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 18 February, at least one person was killed and two others were killed following a drive-by shooting of a public bus in the Mejicanos municipality of San Salvador. It is indicated that the bus was travelling along Castro Moran Avenue when it was attacked by several gang members carrying machine guns. The attack is believed to have been perpetrated by the La Pandilla Callejera 18 gang, one of many operating in the area.

Travellers are advised to ensure that all travel within El Salvador is subjected to comprehensive security risk management protocols. Those in the country should avoid areas associated with high crime rates where possible, maintain a low profile and minimise movements outside of daylight hours. Travellers should exercise particular caution on rural roads which lack police patrols and are frequently targeted by criminals.
