02/18/2018 (United States) - According to local media reports on Sunday, 18 February, a number of student protest groups have called for nationwide walkouts, sit-ins and demonstrations on school campuses following the recent school shooting in Florida in an attempt to persuade lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws. No timings or specific location have yet been confirmed yet major urban centres and educational establishments are likely to be flashpoints. In addition the Network for Public Education has also announced a "national day of action" on Friday, 20 April, on the anniversary of the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado.

Travellers should monitor local media reports for updates regarding potential localised travel disruptions due to increased security measures and protests. They are advised to remain clear of any protests, whether planned or spontaneous, due to the risk of exposure to incidental violence and crowd control operations.
