Dozens Feared Dead Following Plane Crash In Isfahan Province

02/18/2018 (Iran) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 18 February, a plane belonging to Aseman Airlines carrying 60 passengers and 6 crew crashed in the vicinity of the town of Samirom, Isfahan Province. The flight was taking passengers from Tehran to the city of Yasuj. The plane disappeared from radar at approximately 0845 local time (0545 UTC). Search and rescue operations are ongoing involving several helicopters. Local authorities have stated that it was not possible to send ambulances to the crash due to the mountainous nature of the region. Thus far there have not been any official reports of fatalities or injuries.

Those in Samirom are advised to avoid the vicinity of the crash due to ongoing emergency operations. Clients using air travel throughout the region are advised to contact their airline prior to travel to ascertain the status of their flights. Severe flight delays are possible and overland travel disruption may also be anticipated in the vicinity of the crash while emergency response operations are underway. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on any associated travel disruption and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
