Several Arrested Following Demonstrations Near Novokuznetsk

02/18/2018 (Russia) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 18 February, dozens of residents of the city of Novokuznetsk blocked a road to the Berezovsky Coal Mine located near the city of Novokuznetsk. Reports indicate that several people have been arrested by the police. This is the latest in a series of protests against the building of the coal mine and the subsequent seizure of land and property belonging to local residents. Further protests are likely.

Clients in Novokuznetsk are advised to avoid the vicinity of the protests or any other large political gatherings in order to avoid accidental violence and a heavy-handed security response.
