Several Suspected Militants Killed in Hakkari Province

02/18/2018 (Iraq) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 18 February, as many as 15 suspected militants have been killed in Semdinli county in the province of Hakkari. Reports indicate that military operations were also carried out in northern Iraq where a member of the Turkish security forces was killed. The militants are thought to be members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Travel in south-eastern Turkey should be subject to a localised risk assessment and only undertaken with comprehensive security risk management measures in place. Particular caution should be taken in border areas with Iraq and Syria due to frequent cross-border fire. Those with travel plans in the region are advised to liaise with local authorities to identify no-go areas and ascertain the safest travel routes.
