Explosion during Wedding Ceremony in Rajasthan Kills 18; Recovery Efforts Ongoing

02/18/2018 (India) - According to local media reports on Sunday, 18 February, an explosion has occurred at an Indian hotel in the city of Beawar, in the western state of Rajasthan. The explosion, which was caused by a faulty gas cylinder, is thought to have occurred during a wedding ceremony. This also triggered a large fire which burnt through a number of surrounding buildings. The death toll is thought to be as high as 18, however, recovery efforts are still ongoing.

The incident highlights the poor health and safety standards in some private buildings in the country. Clients in the vicinity of the incident are advised to exercise a high level of situational awareness as investigations are underway. Those operating within the aforementioned area should expect an increase in the presence of security personnel following the incident.
