Police Clash with Anti-Fascist Protesters in Bologna ahead of Far-Right Rally

02/17/2018 (Italy) - According to international media on Friday, 16 February, a number of people have been injured after riot police dispersed anti-fascist protesters in Bologna using water cannons and baton charges. The student-led protesters gathered at Galvani square in the centre of Bologna to demonstrate against a rally of the far-right Forza Nuova party. The clashes began in the afternoon and continued into the evening.
Travellers in Bologna are advised to monitor local media sources for related developments and any further far-right events that may draw protests. Travellers should avoid all political protests and exercise caution in the vicinity of gathering crowds in order to minimise the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, opportunistic crime, and police crowd control operations.
