02/17/2018 (South Sudan) - According to local media on Friday, 16 February, at least five people and 270 heads of cattle were killed following a raid against Gweir village in Bieh state. It is reported that the suspected perpetrators were based in neighbouring Boma state. The incident is the latest in a series of cattle raids and violent assaults that have plagued the state in recent months.

Given the heightened tensions and an increased threat of intercommunal violence and banditry at this time, those in Bieh State are advised to remain extremely vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to security forces. Operationally-critical travel in rural areas should be conducted following a comprehensive localised threat assessment. Travellers should regularly review security management protocols to ensure that they remain commensurate with the evolving local threat environment.
