Several Killed in Garbage Collection Point Fire in Guangdong Province; Efforts to Extinguish Flames Continue

02/17/2018 (China) - According to emerging reports from local media sources on Saturday, 17 February, as many as nine people have been killed and one other has been injured after a fire broke out at a garbage collection point in Qingyuan City in Guangdong Province. Efforts to contain the blaze are ongoing, causing some overland travel disruption. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Those in the vicinity of the fire are advised to avoid the area in the immediate term due to the ongoing firefighting operations and associated localised travel disruption. Clients should stay indoors and close all windows as a precaution against potentially harmful fumes. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
