02/17/2018 (Pakistan) - Local media reports on Saturday, 17 February, indicate that four paramilitary soldiers of the Frontier Corps (FC) have been killed in an ambush in Quetta, Balochistan province. The group were reportedly on a routine patrol in the Sariab Road area when their vehicle was attacked by a group of militants from the Tehreek-e-Taliban group. The militants opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene. This is the latest in a series of attacks against security personnel in the region this year, at least seven people were killed in January when a suicide bomber targetted a police truck.

Travellers in the Quetta area should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations. Those in Baluchistan province are advised to exercise a heightened level of vigilance given the persistent threat of terrorism, particularly in the vicinity of security forces patrols as these are frequently targeted, and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces. Security measures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
