02/17/2018 (Philippines) - According to local news sources on Saturday, 17 February, two people have been killed and a further ten injured in a road traffic incident (RTI) which took place in Toledo City, Cebu province. The incident occurred when a truck carrying vegetables travelling to markets in the city lost control on a steep slope and struck multiple pedestrians. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where two subsequently died of their injuries. The driver of the truck was also injured in the incident and has been detained by police on suspicion of reckless driving.
Self-driving is not advised for foreign personnel due to reckless driving habits by local motorists, heavy road congestions, especially in major cities, as well as poor road conditions and lack of safety signs outside urban centres. Local driving habits are generally considered hazardous mainly due to disregard for traffic and safety guidelines. Clients in the vicinity of Agoo should expect residual clear up operations and a notable presence of emergency teams and therefore also potential overland travel disruption.
