02/17/2018 (Bulgaria) - According to emerging social media reports on Saturday, 17 February, a man has attacked a police officer during a routine patrol in the city of Ruse. The officer is thought to have been assaulted with a large sword when they pulled over a motorist during routine check in the east of the metropolitan area. The suspect has since been arrested. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Travellers in Ruse should avoid the area in the immediate term due to ongoing investigations. They should immediately report any suspicious activity to security forces and heed any directives issued by authorities.
