02/17/2018 (Thailand) - According to international news sources on Saturday, 17 February, pro-democracy activists are planning to stage a series of protests on Sunday, 18 February in the north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima to demand that the military government does not delay elections which are planned to be held in November. Activists from the Democracy Restoration Group (DRG) announced that they would be holding the protests, despite threats of arrests from authorities, and that they are also planning a demonstration in the capital, Bangkok, on Saturday, 24 February.

Travellers are advised that a ban was introduced in May 2014 after a coup d'etat, which forbids gatherings of more than five people. All public gatherings and demonstrations, whether planned or spontaneous, should be avoided where possible due to the risk of exposure to potential violence and opportunistic crime. Alternative routes should be considered to circumvent protest sites and minimise inconvenience from any travel delays.
