02/16/2018 (Saudi Arabia) - According to regional media outlets on Thursday, 15 February, at least five Saudi soldiers have been killed following a sniper attack in the border region of Jizan, perpetrated by Yemeni rebels. It is indicated that soldiers near the al-Qamar village came under fire by gunmen from the Popular Committees rebel group. The attacks were allegedly in response to air raids by the Saudi-led coalition air forces. The sniper attack came shortly after the alleged shelling of the Ramazah military base in Jizan by Yemeni armed forces.

Travellers should be aware that Saudi Arabia's southwestern border region remains a high-risk operational environment due to militancy and ongoing security operations. Due to the ongoing risk of conflict spill-over, those in the region, particularly the Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, should continue to exercise a high degree of caution and coordinate all movement near the border with security forces and local authorities.
