02/16/2018 (Morocco) - According to local media sources, protests have been planned by several labour unions in Rabat on Sunday, 18 and Tuesday, 20 February, calling for improved working conditions and retirement planning, amongst other issues. On Sunday, 18 February, the Democratic Labor Organization (ODT) is organising a march of anger in Rabat, which will involve unemployed people, teachers, civil servants and private-sector employees. The Democratic Labor Confederation (CDT) plans to stage a sit-in protest in front of the Parliament in Rabat on Tuesday, 20 February, in opposition to the recent appointment of a new Minister for Education, who is looking to introduce increased tuition fees. The two organised demonstrations will occur against a backdrop of daily nationwide protests organised by the Moroccan Union of Labor (UMT), which began on Saturday, 10 February, and is due to continue until 10 March.

Travellers in Rabat should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any further protests in relation to this issue in their particular area of operations. Travellers are advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings in Morocco due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence. Clients are advised to revise journey plans accordingly in order to minimise disruption and impact on business continuity.
