Militant Killed in Police Ambush in Merti, Isiolo County

02/16/2018 (Kenya) - According to local media sources on Friday, 16 February, at least one militant has been killed and two have been arrested after clashes with Anti-terrorism Police Unit Officers in Merti, Isiolo County, on Thursday, 15 February. Police also recovered a large cache of firearms, grenades, ammunition, and vehicles. There is an increased security presence in the surrounding area and a wide scale counter-terrorism operation is reportedly underway to search for accomplices.
Clients travelling in Isiolo County are advised to subject all movement to strict security and journey management protocols. Travellers should be mindful of the ongoing security operation and increased presence of armed security in the region, immediately heeding any directives issued by authorities. Travellers are advised to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious objects or activity to security forces.
