Teachers Killed by Suspected Al Shabaab Militants in Qarsa, Wajir County

02/16/2018 (Kenya) - According to local media sources on Friday, 16 February, three teachers have been killed and one other injured by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Qarsa, Wajir County. The militants reportedly carried out an armed attack on a primary school in Qarsa on Friday morning. The militants had also set up an improvised explosive device (IED) at the entrance to the school which was detonated when security forces arrived, damaging a security vehicle. Al Shabaab has carried out numerous attacks on civilian targets in Wajir County in recent weeks.

Due to the increased risk of terrorist activity, clients travelling in Wajir County are advised to subject all movement to strict security and journey management protocols. Travellers should be mindful of ongoing security operations and increased presence of armed security in the region, immediately heeding any directives issued by authorities. Travellers are advised to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious objects or activity to security forces.
